The First thing I want to mention about Dunk City after Dark is the fans. The crowd was loud and really did their job filling Alico Arena. The atmosphere was fantastic which created a great way to start the season.
The night began with the introduction on the Women's team and a great speech by Coach Smesko. The Men's team was brought out soon after with a really cool intro video.
The first basketball related activity that they did last night was a three point contest which matched three teams consisting of men's player, a women's player and a student. No one really shot well in the even with the exception being Filip who knocked down four of his five shots.
After the three point contest came the much anticipated Dunk Contest. The participants were Jamail Jones, Brian Green Jr, Chase Fieler, Julian DeBose, and Eric McKnight. The guys proved why we are Dunk City and threw down some truly nasty dunks, but Brian stole the show with first a between the legs dunk followed by a 360 between the legs dunk which may have been the best dunk I have ever seen live.
After that came the scrimmage which almost felt like a let down after the dunk contest. The game was very up and down as well as guard dominated with Bernard and Brett controlling most of the game. Dajuan also looked comfortable and it wouldn't surprise if we saw some three guard line up this season. As for the bigs, Chase did what he does. I think he will be our most consistent player this season. Nate also looked solid and could be a huge X-Factor in conference play due to his size and ability to step away from the hoop.
All in all it was a great night that has me absolutely pumped for the start of the season
